Known for its beautiful beaches, Panama City Beach is the perfect destination for all sea lovers. Not only is it perfect for beach-goers, but adventure seekers, camping enthusiasts, and fishers alike. Panama City Beach is the perfect destination for anglers, offering tons of diverse fishing opportunities along the shoreline. Plus, the fishing season here is year-round, making it the perfect time to get down here and cast a line! If you’re not sure where to start in planning your fishing venture, here are some of the top Panama City Beach public fishing spots to scout.
Frank Brown Park Fishing Pond
Frank Brown Park is a 100-acre complex that is a great way to spend the entire day! With tons of different sporting fields from soccer to baseball to tennis courts, you’ll always find something to entertain you throughout the season.
However, the real fishing fun can be found on their freshwater fishing pond, surrounded by shady trees and picnic benches. This pond is a great place to start for junior anglers. The spot boasts two ponds covered in lily pads, flowers, and freshwater reeds, making it as scenic as it is fun. The ponds are filled once a year with catfish, bass, and bream by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. As it is a “youth” fishing area, this pond is designated for children 16 years of age or younger, but adults are always more than welcome to tag along and fish with them!
St. Andrews State Park Fishing
Known for its beautiful white sands and clear waters, St. Andrews State Park is one of the dozens of beautiful family-friendly parks around the gulf. While the pristine beaches are inviting to sunbathers and swimmers, the waters are just as inviting to fishermen! With jetties, a shallow shoreline, and several piers, there are tons of locations and opportunities to drop a line. Here, you can plan on seeing and targeting flounder, sea trout, and redfish alike.
Conveniently, you can find bait, basic tackle accessories, snacks, and boat rentals at their on-site concession stand to get you started. Please note that a Florida saltwater fishing license is required to fish here, as well as following regulations and bag limits for harvested fish.
Panama City Beach Fishing Piers
While St. Andrews and Frank Brown are amazingly family-friendly locations to fish, more experienced anglers might be interested in the two other main hubs Panama City Beach has to offer. If you’re looking for a day to just fish, here are two piers that may just suit your needs.
Russell-Fields Pier
A 1,500-foot-long pier in Pier Park, Russell-Fields Pier is a hot spot for Spanish Mackerel and Pompano, as well as some bigger catches like Cobia and King Mackerel. This pier is located right in Pier Park’s main shopping and entertainment areas, too! That means there’s plenty to keep the rest of the family busy while you fish. There is even an aquarium viewable right from the observation deck.
Perfect for the year-round fishing season, this pier is open 24/7 all year long. However, adults can expect to pay $7 to fish, whereas children under 6 years of age are encouraged to access the pier for free. They also offer a military and senior discount to fish for just $3.
M.B. Miller County Pier
The M.B Miller County Pier is the place to be if you’re looking for a great fishing experience. Located at the end of Thomas Drive, this concrete pier is also roughly 1,500 feet long. They offer bait and tackle on-site, plus sightseeing opportunities for dolphins and even the occasional whale shark!
You can expect to find Spanish Mackerel as well as smaller sharks and Cobia on occasion. Just like the Russell-Fields Pier, there is a $3 charge for spectators, $6 for fishers, and free of charge for children under 6 years of age. They also offer annual passes for those avid anglers – open year-round, 365 days a year!
